Address: Calle Velarde
Metro: Tribunal, Bilbao (2 minute walk)
The Apartment Velarde is located in Malasaña, one of the most lively neighborhoods of Madrid. This area has been re-inventing itself in the last decade, and nowadays it hosts some of Madrid's trendiest shops, restaurants, and bars.
Malasaña is particularly famous for its intense and energetic nightlife, with bars that have been open since the 80s, during the heyday of "La Movida," a cultural movement of which film maker Pedro Almodóvar is the best-known representative. Traditionally, Malasaña has been the place where rock music fans would go, but nowadays you will find in Malasaña venues offering a wide range of sounds. In fact, Malasaña is arguably the neighborhood of Madrid where you will find the most interesting and varied musical scene, thanks to its many independent record shops, bars, and performance venues.
The apartment has a very central location in Madrid, near Plaza del Dos de Mayo, which has many terrazas and bars where you can enjoy a drink outdoors. Walk up the street and you will be in Calle Fuencarral, which is Madrid's most fashionable place to go shopping thanks to its trend-setting stores. In five minutes you can walk to Chueca, Madrid's predominantly gay neighborhood and home to many chic restaurants and bars. You can also walk to Gran Via, Plaza de Colón, and Sol in just 10-15 minutes.
