In addition, the apartment is conveniently located near Atocha railroad station, also 5 minutes away on foot.
The apartment is located is located in the "Barrio de las Letras," which can be translated as "Literary Madrid." Its name stems from the fact that in the 16th and 17th century, the Golden Age of Spanish literature, this was the area where writers such as Cervantes, Quevedo, and Lope de Vega lived.
The Barrio de las Letras has in the past two decades experienced a revival and is today one the most pleasant neighborhoods in the center of Madrid, with many art galleries, cafés, and small stores. Calle Huertas is full of restaurants and bars, and Plaza de Santa Ana is famous for its many outdoor terrazas, tapas restaurants, live-performance tablaos flamencos, and jazz clubs. However, the apartment is located on a very quiet street with almost no noise or traffic.
Walking up Calle Atocha or Calle Huertas you can reach Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor in barely 10 minutes. From Sol you can walk in a couple of minutes to the recently restored Opera House and the Magnificent Royal Palace. A short walk up Paseo del Prado will take you to Plaza de Cibeles, where Madrid's landmark fountain is located.
