The apartment Atocha is located near the Reina Sofia Contemporary Art Museum and Atocha Railroad Station. This neighborhood is called Arganzuela, and it is a residential area with many supermarkets, stores, and restaurants. At the same time, the apartment is quite central, and you can easily walk from here to most of Madrid's landmarks.
Walking up Paseo de las Delicias, a broad tree-lined avenue, you will reach Plaza del Emperador Carlos V (most commonly known as "Atocha") in 5 minutes. Here you will find the Reina Sofia Museum, which houses masterpieces from Picasso, Dalí, and other modern artists. Atocha Railroad Station is also located here, with its 19th century glass and steel structure. Walking north a couple blocks further, you reach Paseo del Prado, one of Madrid's most beautiful boulevards, where the world-famous Prado Museum is located, just 10 minutes walking from the Apartment. On Paseo del Prado you will also find the lovely Botanical Garden and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. You can also walk to the Retiro Park in 10 minutes, Madrid's largest and prettiest park.
Other parts of the city, such as Puerta del Sol and Gran Via are easily accessible. You can walk to Sol in 20 minutes, or you can take the metro (only 3 stops away on a direct line). The apartment has excellent public transportation links. The metro stop is only 2 minutes away, and many buses stop nearby. Travelers will appreciate that Atocha Railroad Station is very near the apartment. From here you can take trains to Toledo, El Escorial, and Segovia, and also long distance high-speed trains to Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia, etc.
